GWM Ora 5 Pricing, Range and Ownership Costs for Melbourne Buyers

The Ora 5 Lux starts from $33,990 drive away.

The Ora 5 Ultra, which adds a panoramic glass roof, heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging and upgraded leatherette seating with driver's seat memory, starts from $36,990 drive away.

Both model levels offer Australian-tuned suspension and handling, a spare wheel and a road trip friendly 435km range (WLTP).

Both grades carry the same drivetrain, battery, range and full active safety suite. The differences between them come down to comfort and convenience features rather than how the car drives or how far it goes.

The Ora 5 is rated at up to 435km on the WLTC test cycle, drawing from a 58.33kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. It's powered by a single front-mounted electric motor producing 150kW and 260Nm of torque, with 0 to 100km/h taking a claimed 8.0 seconds.

On a 120kW DC fast charger, the battery goes from 30% to 80% per cent in around 20 minutes and during my recent public DC fast charge testing I conducted on the Ora 5 at Dandenong U-Go's Ampcharge charger, it achieve 50% to 80% in 12 minutes, at a charge rate of about 100kW.

The car also comes with Vehicle-to-Load capability, so you can run camping gear, tools or other equipment straight off the battery when you're away from a power point.

Yes. The Ora 5 is developed under GWM's local "AT-1" engineering program, led by Rob Trubiani, who spent 15 years as Holden's lead vehicle dynamics engineer before joining GWM in 2025.

AT-1 tuning covers suspension, damper calibration and steering setup, developed specifically around local road surfaces and driving conditions rather than adapted from a global tune after the fact.

It's the same team and process behind the local suspension work already rolled out on other GWM models sold in Australia.

What technology and safety equipment come standard?

Every Ora 5 Lux or Ultra, is built around GWM's Coffee OS infotainment system, running through a 14.6-inch touchscreen alongside a 10.25-inch digital driver's display.

Apple CarPlay is wireless, and the car connects to a companion app for remote functions through the GWM Telematics system.

On safety, both grades come standard with seven airbags including a front-centre airbag, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and braking, traffic sign recognition, a driver fatigue and distraction monitor, and a 360-degree camera with a transparent chassis view for tight parking.

While some buyers may find the speed alert warnings or driver attention monitoring a little trigger-happy if they are unfamiliar with these systems, GWM has made it easy to navigate to the correct menu to quickly customise your preferences for these functions.

The Ora 5 is currently undergoing ANCAP assessment, with a result expected later in 2026.

The Ora 5 is covered by a 7 year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty and an 8 year, unlimited-kilometre warranty on the high-voltage battery.

That's backed by 7 years of roadside assistance and 7 years of capped-price servicing at $195 per visit, with services due every 12 months or 15,000km, whichever comes first.

Over the full 7 year program, that works out to roughly $1,365 in scheduled servicing, a fixed and predictable figure you can budget for from day one.

It's built as a proper small SUV rather than a lifted hatchback, this means usable boot space and rear seat space that I felt was generous for both head and legroom, this should work for both family buyers and buyers wishing to bring a friend or two for the adventure.

The Ora 5 measures 4,471mm long, 1,833mm wide and 1,641mm tall on a 2,720mm wheelbase, with boot space ranging from 362 litres with the rear seats up to 1,060 litres with them folded.

Every Ora 5 also includes an integrated space-saver spare tyre, which is worth highlighting if you're planning trips further out from the city, since not every electric car in this segment carries one.

Inside, the centre console includes practical everyday touches like dedicated storage, cupholders and a luggage cover, and the rear doors get child safety locks along with ISOFIX mounting points for two child seats.

The Ora 5 range includes Pepper White at no extra cost, along with five premium paint options for a $595 charge: Mystic Grey, Crystal Black, Cute Cyan, Flamingo Pink and Emerald Green.
